We are pleased and excited to announce that film maker Asif Kapadia, who grew up in Hackney, has shown his support for our work by becoming a patron. Asif is a BAFTA winning Director / Writer / Producer and is best known for his documentary work, including Senna and Amy.
"I am proud to be Patron of Hackney Shed. A diverse and vibrant place where young people come together to make exciting theatre. A place where each person is equal, their ideas nurtured regardless of background or ability. A unique place flourishing at the heart of Hackney. I was born and educated in Hackney and I understand the need for such a ‘no barriers’ theatre group. Testament to its success is a fifteen year history helping local young people to grow as proud young citizens at the centre of a thriving borough and part of one of the world’s most diverse and artistically exciting cities. The young people at Hackney Shed have a voice, a place to develop their ideas. A place where social barriers are broken down and friendships fostered using theatre and the arts as an expression of themselves. Helping everyone develop skills that will carry through their lives".
We look forward to working with Asif and thank him for his support.
