Hackney Shed Collective is a new branch of Hackney Shed .  The Collective is aimed at 16-25 year old's with a particular focus on those with additional needs.

We are looking for a new Chair of Trustees

 Since 2001, Hackney Shed has been working with children and young people to provide an exciting, vibrant, creative and accepting place for children and young people in the London Borough of Hackney. We come together to share ideas and produce exciting theatre. 

We are recruiting a Chairperson to build capacity and experience to support our charity on its journey.

How can you help?

Building on a hugely successful history, we are looking for an enthusiastic and well-connected chairperson who can help us. There are lots of exciting projects underway and opportunities to grow. The charity needs your help and leadership to continue to flourish and build an even bigger and better future.



As a Chair of Trustees, the successful applicant will share the responsibility for the overall governance and strategic direction of Hackney Shed.  Providing knowledge and guidance to help direct the group strategy.  The role will require an active involvement in the group and offer a fun and interesting opportunity to use your skills and build upon our 17 years of continued success.

You will have a commitment and passion for the arts and inclusivity in our society. Coupled with a strong desire to use your skills and experience to support local people achieve great things and develop their skills for life.

By 2020 we aim to:

  • Reach an increasing membership and audience base by:
  • Continuing to deliver and develop our high-quality programme of workshops and theatre making
  • Achieve a diversified funding model to achieve medium to long-term stability and sustainability
  • Develop a sustainable model for expanding workshop delivery
  • Increased and diversified board of trustees

Remuneration:  The role of Chair is voluntary and is not a paid position. Expenses for travel may be claimed

Time commitment:   4 x Board meetings per year. The Chair is also expected to have regular meetings with the Artistic Director, and also represent the Charity at various events and meetings

Purpose of the role

The Chair will hold the Board and the Artistic Director to account for the Charity’s mission and vision, providing inclusive leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring that each trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the charity. The Chair will also support, and, where appropriate, challenge the Artistic Director and ensure that the Board functions as a unit and works closely with all paid staff to achieve agreed objectives. He or she will act as an ambassador and the public face of the charity in partnership with the Artistic Director.

Half Term Film Making Workshop

It's time for another one of our amazing filming workshops! 

Come along to a free filming workshop during the half term for young people aged 14-19 years. 

What: You will work to create short films with other young actors, a professional filmmaker and our experienced Hackney Shed team.

It's coming up to Halloween and strange things are afoot at Sutton House, one of Hackney oldest buildings. Hackney Shed are inviting you to investigate the creepy corridors and spooky spaces, where we'll work together to come up with the most terrifyingly tall talesDon't miss out on this spine-tingling experience!

If you're interested in performing or making work with other young people then this is the workshop for you!

Summer Project - Hackney Carnival Collective


We have a very exciting opportunity for a FREE summer project!

Are you aged 16 -25?

Do you have a learning disability?

Want to learn new skills and perform in Hackney Carnival?


Hackney Shed have teamed up with Access All Areas to bring you a free carnival project as part of Discover Young Hackney Festival this summer.

Running from August to September, 16 - 25 year old's with learning difficulties/disabilities are invited to join the Hackney Carnival Collective: a wonderfully fun opportunity to work with professional artists on creating music, movement and costume. 

Participants can sign up to one or both parts of the projects as follows -

Part 1 with HACKNEY SHED

2 - 4 August, 11 – 4pm
