HOW IT ALL BEGAN

HACKNEY CARNIVAL COLLECTIVE SUMMER 2017

Over the summer of 2017 we piloted an exciting new project as part of the Discover Young Hackney 2017 Festival.  ‘Hackney Carnival Collective’ was for young adults with learning disabilities who came along to learn new performing skills and take part in Hackney Carnival at the end of it!

It was a great success and everyone had a fantastic time creating carnival characters and costumes and learning how to Samba drum.

Some feedback from our participants include:

“I want to do it more often” Participant aged 20 years

“I’ve genuinely enjoyed my experience being here working with new people.  I’m happy that I came up with a character I developed.  And getting the chance to act!” Participant aged 25 years.

A short film documenting the project can be found on our YouTube channel: Hackney Carnival Collective Film
